Kombucha Mocktails

With Christmas, our wedding and New Year celebrations all happening within the space of a few weeks we have hit the end on January and I’m feeling a little exhaused. This past 2-3 months seems to have been nothing but dinners, parties and catching up with friends. I’m not really complaining, but it does feel like it is time to have a month off the booze to re-charge the batteries. A kombucha mocktail is everything I want right now.

Normally mocktails do nothing for me, I see no point in drinking sickly sweet lolly water. I like my cocktails (and mocktails) to be strongly flavoured, slightly sweet but mostly sour. I especially love to add herbs for added taste and aroma.

Rather than use sugary fruit juices or other mixers I’m using kombucha.

Perfect for a healthy treat

You’ll find kombucha in any health food store and in most supermarkets. It has a lovely, slightly spicy flavour. My favourite flavours are ginger (like a mild ginger beer) or ginger/tumeric. Kombucha is flagged as having all sorts of health benefits, personally I find it settles my stomach after a rich meal, plus it tastes amazing.

If you do go looking for it, make sure you’re buying a low sugar brand, otherwise you may as well just use soft drink (soda). Also, some brands have a clearer finish to them, others can look like dirty water. Don’t let that put you off, it really is delicious.

In my opinion all three of these kombucha mocktails taste like real cocktails. Of course if you are partial to a “real” cocktail, a little added gin, white rum or vodka will work really well.

I’m completely looking forward to this next month of rest, and l and will happily sip on any of these while I do it. Bring on the sun!!
